Barrington, RI

The design brief was to create a French country-style house to be used as a primary residence. In elevation, the signature components are all there: tall, vertically-proportioned casement windows wrap the ground floor, soft, delicately-arched dormers punctuate a hipped mansard roof that sits atop generously-flared eaves, tawny stucco describes the walls. Inside, the layout is mostly formal though primary spaces are designed to accommodate the casual niceties of modern living, such as unrestricted circulation. Of note, an expansive entry foyer with a winding stairway anchors a central spine from which the interior floorplan unfolds.
