The program for this house emphasized its use as a summer residence by a family closely affiliated with the sea—the children enjoy the beach and the father is an avid surfer. Appropriately, it commands views of the ocean to the south from its coastal location in Middletown, R.I. Central to the design brief was the inclusion of two master suites, one upstairs and the other down on the main living level. An open plan for living, dining and kitchen speaks to the clients’ casual, easygoing lifestyle. A small pool and ample bunk-room accommodations for children and guests make this an ideal getaway for summer weekends.
