The site was originally an orchard, part of a larger estate. It remains arboreal and the prevalence of mature trees delivers a sense of established permanence and natural grace amid the location in a lively residential neighborhood adjacent to Newport’s famed Cliff Walk. The client desired an Italian country house arranged for the most part on one floor with the exception of a distinctive, off-center, three-story tower that includes a dining area and library surrounded by a mezzanine filled with books. A bedroom suite occupies the third level. A solarium off the primary living space on the ground floor allows the owners to address their varied horticultural pursuits.
