This multi-family residence is comprised of two separate structures with a unique story to tell. An older house on recreational Lake Wequaquet in the Cape Cod town of Barnstable, Mass. was razed in order to make room for two new houses to accommodate the adult children of the parcel’s owners. The program stipulated that these structures be designed such that two married couples could enjoy separate houses in the context of a family compound. The result is imaginative and practical at the same time, two dwellings that enjoy physical separation yet complement one another and create the unified impression of a single, well-balanced living ensemble. The design is in the shingled vernacular of Cape Cod and the interiors emphasize open summertime living, overlooking a manicured lawn that rolls down to the lake.
