Sea View, Newport, R.I.

A single-family vacation residence in a quiet neighborhood overlooking the Atlantic presented a straightforward design brief: Maximize the ocean viewscape to the east, bathe the interior with natural light, and open the floor plan to unify interior living spaces and encourage unimpeded access to secondary living spaces outdoors. As a result, the interior has the airy feel of a Caribbean villa with its high coffered ceilings, white walls and redundant exposure to a bluestone patio and covered porch outside. Exterior elevations utilize the interplay of structural massing and a steeply pitched gabled roof system to promote qualities of texture and three-dimensionality.
