Pool House, Osterville, Mass
On a waterfront site in the exclusive Osterville, Cape Cod enclave of Oyster Harbors, the client wanted to add a swimming pool and pool house to enhance the property and provide a venue for recreation, entertaining and summertime dining. The program called for an upscale main structure, architecturally astute beyond the notion of its utility as a complement to the pool. Featuring a wood-shingled hip roof with graceful, understated curved eaves, the result is this simple but elegant rectilinear design anchored in front by a shallow overhang supported on columns. It is equipped with a fully-functioning kitchen, a separate dining space, and a living room on axis with a large fireplace. Three sets of mahogany bifold doors with glass lights allow the entire space to open onto and become one with the pool deck three steps below.
